Permitting Automation for Municipal Construction
Spruce was brought in to automate formerly manual processes so that the agency could increase the speed at which they complete applications submitted by the public. Previously, the process had utilized the distribution and collection of paper applications; filing and obtaining status updates could be frustrating and time-consuming, and audits could be difficult to perform. Spruce sought to modernize these processes by incorporating them into a more efficient digital system.
Spruce designed a user-friendly system to facilitate the permitting, licensing, and inspections process for hundreds of internal agency users, tens of thousands of industry professional users, and up to one million public users. The solution processes nearly 1 million transactions monthly. The system has reduced in-person visits by over 20%, provides customers 24/7 access to filing status, and decreased processing time from weeks to days.
Cybersecurity Awareness Month Training for Municipal Employees
The city commissioned Spruce to architect a comprehensive employee-focused cybersecurity education and evaluation program to better secure city infrastructure and prevent cybercrime. For this initiative, Spruce was asked to produce four separate deliverables: a one-month cybersecurity training and education course for city employees, weekly written intranet content to supplement the training course themes, a simulated Phishing campaign on every active city employee, and a summarized report of findings at the conclusion of the month. Spruce provided all listed deliverables in a timely manner and fulfilled all client requests on this project.
Over the course of six weeks, Spruce planned and executed a full-scale effort to assist the city in bolstering its cybersecurity protocols and practices. Spruce developed a four-week course in coordination with city’s Information Technology Department, with each week focusing on a different aspect of cybersecurity. To supplement this effort, Spruce prepared and made publicly available relevant and City specific information to support the theme. To help combat weaknesses in the system Spruce created and managed a simulated phishing effort to monitor employee responses. At the conclusion of these efforts, Spruce produced a written report detailing the findings and issuing recommendations.
Dynamic Website Revamp for Interstate Transit Hub
The client and their subsidiaries needed a comprehensive upgrade to all websites in their system. Before connecting with Spruce, the website interfaces were dated, slow, and difficult for end users to navigate efficiently to find information. The goal of the project was for Spruce to create a user interface that conveyed real-time information about the structure and surrounding areas under the client’s management to viewers in a concise, organized manner.
In order to improve and overhaul the existing digital infrastructure for the client and its subsidiaries, Spruce embarked on an exhaustive review of the current UX systems as well as advanced analytical data to create a list of pain points and priorities. The Spruce solution emphasized ease of access in obtaining the most sought information by end users, as revealed by website analytics and user data. By the end of the project, the client’s family of websites saw significant improvement in overall functionality and user experience.
