Dynamic Website Revamp for Interstate Transit Hub

Spruce partnered with a large interstate government infrastructure client that manages multiple airports and ports across two states to redevelop multiple websites of entities managed by the client in order to create a simpler, streamlined experience for end users of each website.

Spruce was contracted by the client to make major changes to various websites within the organization. As part of our goal to make the relevant information easily and quickly accessible, our team determined the optimal UX placement of this data so that it could be viewed as efficiently as possible, especially from mobile. Our team’s complete reorganization of the existing website led to easier user access, cross platform compatibility, and more efficient display of information.

Spruce immediately commenced with their plan to upgrade the user experience and end-to-end functionality of the website. The overall operating philosophy of the plan was to minimize the effort required by the user to obtain key information and to navigate the website while implementing a more responsive, dynamic web experience. Spruce ensured that the new websites were cross-platform compatible with all major devices and could be used effectively both on desktop and mobile platforms. Additionally, Spruce’s work featured the migration and integration of a large volume of content into the WordPress CMS platform, look-ahead navigation to reduce total click volume, and a UX/UI design that reflected the new, modern branding initiatives of the client.

When the project was completed, the effects of the rebuild were immediately obvious to all visitors. The pages were far more responsive, and users were more easily able to access all areas of the website. A major feature of the rebuilding process came in the addition of procurement, careers, events, meetings, news, and blog pages, allowing more community access to the client and its personnel. The website was built to be ADA Level AA compliant, and along with new features such as robust filtering for news and press releases, social media integration, and the creation of an alert module, the client’s website became fully functional as a one-stop shop for all relevant information.

Challenge

The client and their subsidiaries needed a comprehensive upgrade to all websites in their system. Before connecting with Spruce, the website interfaces were dated, slow, and difficult for end users to navigate efficiently to find information. The goal of the project was for Spruce to create a user interface that conveyed real-time information about the structure and surrounding areas under the client’s management to viewers in a concise, organized manner.

Solution

In order to improve and overhaul the existing digital infrastructure for the client and its subsidiaries, Spruce embarked on an exhaustive review of the current UX systems as well as advanced analytical data to create a list of pain points and priorities. The Spruce solution emphasized ease of access in obtaining the most sought information by end users, as revealed by website analytics and user data. By the end of the project, the client’s family of websites saw significant improvement in overall functionality and user experience.
